Pipe Fitter

Average Salary: $47,143

The water distribution system is a web of pipes that travels from the treatment plant to each home and business in the community. Conversely, the wastewater collection’s system is a web of pipes that travels from the homes and businesses to the treatment plant.  These pipes make many bends, curves, and turns. They intersect at different angles, and larger pipes feed into smaller pipes. Pipe fitters create the pipes in the right shapes and sizes by:

  • cutting and forming metal to follow a template;
  • welding and soldering the pipes in the workshop and in the field;
  • ensuring that pipes do not leak at the seams and joints;
  • repairing broken or leaking pipes.
